How Long Does It Take to Backup iPhone to iCloud

How Long Does It Take to Backup iPhone to iCloud

Everyone who owns an iPhone or iPad understands the importance of creating a full backup of the data on their device. This is the only way to safeguard against data loss since you can simply restore the device from the backup to get any lost data back. There are many instances when a backup is highly recommended. These include when updating iPhone to the latest version of iOS, or restoring iPad to its factory settings, etc.

While iTunes can be a great solution to backup iOS devices to PC or Mac, most people prefer iCloud simply because it can be done without using a computer. But many users on Apple Forums reported that backing up iPhone via iCloud takes a long time and often failed due to unknown reasons. If you are in the same situation, you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we will take a look at how long does it take to backup iPhone to iCloud and why iCloud takes so long to complete the backup. Also, you will learn a better alternative way to backup iPhone or iPad. Keep reading.

Part 1. How Long Does iCloud Backup Take

Generally speaking, it is impossible to tell the exact time an iCloud backup will take. This is because the time it takes often depends on the Wi-Fi connection, the amount of data on the iPhone, and even the condition of the device. But it should take anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours. Let’s take a closer look of the three factors that may influence the time that iCloud takes to back up an iPhone:

How Long Does iCloud Backup Take

Factor 1: Wi-Fi Connection

The faster the Wi-Fi speed, the faster the iCloud backup will take. This is why you are advised to check the strength of the network connection if the iCloud backup is slow or stops.

Factor 2: The Amount of Data on iPhone

The time it takes to back up your iPhone to iCloud depends on the amount of data that you want to backup. The more data you have on your iPhone, the longer the backup process will take.

Factor 3: Condition of the iPhone

It is also important to note that if the iPhone’s storage is full, the backup process may take a very long time or even fail. If the device is considerably running slower, the backup process will also take a long time.

Therefore, there is no concrete answer to the question “how long does it take to backup your iPhone to iCloud.” We recommend however that you back up your iPhone at a time when you won’t be using the device.

Part 2. Why is iCloud Backup Taking So Long

There are several reasons why your iCloud backup process may be slow or even stop. These include the following:

  • You get 5GB of iCloud storage on the free plan. If you have files that are larger than that, the iCloud backup will fail. In this case, it may be a good idea to reduce the size of the files or purchase additional iCloud storage.
  • If the internet connection is slow or unstable, the iCloud backup process may be significantly slower than normal. Check the network settings or connect the device to another network to see of this fixes the problem.
  • If the version of iOS you are running is outdated, any function on the device including iCloud backup may be seriously affected, causing problems with the process or slowing it down. To update the device: go to Settings > General > Software Update.
  • The process may also slow down if you are trying to back up all the data on the device even some unnecessary files. Go to Settings >iCloud to remove some of the data you don’t want included in the backup.

Part 3. iCloud Alternative to Backup iPhone

If you are having trouble backing up iPhone via iCloud, it may be a good idea to find an alternative solution to help you make a backup copy for the device. One of the best alternative ways to backup iPhone is using Gihosoft iManager. Option 1: Mobile Spy

As the name suggests, this is a spy tool that can be used to monitor various types of data on your iPhone including text messages. Once you create an account on the website, you will be able to access these types of data from the Mobile Spy online dashboard anytime you want. Options: YouArchive. It

This one works differently from the other two on this list. It is primarily an online tool that allows you to upload the text messages on your iPhone to the service for safe keeping. It also has features that allow you to see and even reply to the text messages online. You will however have to log in to the website to access the messages saved there.

These online solutions have their pros and cons including the following:

Pros

  • You don’t have to install these online services on your iPhone to use them.
  • They allow you to access the text messages from any browser on any devices.

Cons

  • You will need to have a good network connection to access the online tools.
  • Most of them are not free and you may have to create an account to use them.
  • They can also pose a security risk to your iPhone’s data since there is no guarantee that the online tool will take steps to protect any data including messages uploaded to the website.

Way 4: View iPhone Text Messages on Computer via iOS App

You may also be able to use some iOS apps available on the App Store to export the messages on your iPhone to the computer. One of the most reliable apps to use is SMS Export. Here’s how to use the app:

  1. Go to the App Store on your iPhone and search for the SMS Export app. Install it on the device and then open it. Click on “Export Messages” and then select the output folder on the device.
  2. Once the export of the messages is complete, connect the iPhone to the computer and open the folder. You can then copy the CSV or XML file to the computer and open it to view the text messages as desired.

How to use the Uber PIN verification feature in Uganda

How to use the Uber PIN verification feature in Uganda

At the start of the year, we told you about Uber’s strategy to beef up the safety of its riders through the introduction of a four-digit PIN code to assist in ensuring that they board into the right car. The feature, which started in the U.S. is now available in Uganda, and users here will also have the option of receiving the code to provide to their driver before starting a trip.

The driver is required to enter the PIN code into the app, and the rider gets a notification that says “your ride is verified” if everything matches. Riders can choose whether or not to use Uber’s new PIN code feature, or whether to choose and use it only at night.

How to use the Uber PIN verification feature

You can opt-in to the PIN code feature by navigating to your app settings and tapping “Verify Your Ride.” From there, you can choose to use the PIN verification feature on every trip or only during evening trips (9 pm – 6 am). See a video explaining the feature works HERE.

Once enabled, you will receive a four-digit PIN code in their app while the driver is en-route to the pickup location.  When the driver arrives, you can verbally provide the PIN to the driver before getting into the vehicle. After the driver enters the correct PIN, the trip can begin. The interesting bit of it is that when the feature is enabled, a trip cannot start until the correct PIN is entered into the driver’s app.

According to Aaron Tindiseega, the Uber Country Manager for Uganda, the opt-in safety feature will help to ensure that users are getting into the correct Uber before the trip begins.

“This It is a great example of how tech can help make travel safer than ever before, and will support our efforts to continue to prevent incidents as we work to set the standard for ride sharing safety. While I’m proud of the progress we’ve made, when it comes to safety, we know our work is never done.”

Where Do AirDrop Photos & Files Go on Mac, iPhone or iPad

Where Do AirDrop Photos & Files Go on Mac, iPhone or iPad

“Where do AirDrop files go when I transfer them between an iPhone and iPad? I AirDropped some Google Docs from my iPad to my iPhone but nothing happened; where did my files go? Any ideas?”

AirDrop is a pretty useful feature that allows users to send various types of data like photos, videos, music, documents, notes and even website links between nearby Apple devices like Mac, iPhone, iPad without using wires. Despite the convenience of AirDrop, it can be difficult to figure out especially if you are using this function for the first time. The thing that stumps most new users of the service is where the files sent to you via AirDrop are located on the device. If you don’t know where to look, it can be difficult to find the files.

AirDrop.

If this is the current predicament you find yourself in, you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we will show you exactly where AirDrop photos and files go on your Mac, iPhone or iPad. Let’s take a look.

Part 1. Where Do AirDrop Files Go on iPhone/iPad

It is important to note that iOS doesn’t have a specially designated location for data that you receive via AirDrop. All files that you receive via AirDrop, will be opened and handled separately by their respective corresponding apps. For example, when someone sends you a photo via AirDrop, the received files will be opened in the Photos app.

Where Do AirDrop Files Go on iPhone.

You will receive a notification with a preview of the photo as soon as someone sends it to you via AirDrop and you can choose whether to “Accept” or “Decline”. When you “Accept” the photo, it will open in the Photos app.

Part 2. Where Do AirDrop Files Go on Mac

The process is completely different on Mac. Here, all files received via AirDrop are stored on the Mac’s “Downloads” folder by default. You can locate the Download folder by navigating to it through “Finder > Go” or through the Dock. Once you locate the Downloads folder, you will be able to see the recently downloaded files including the files sent to you via AirDrop.

Where Do AirDrop Files Go on Mac.

It is important to note that if you receive a file via AirDrop from a device that shares the same Apple ID, you will not get the option to “Accept” or “Decline”. The files will automatically appear on the receiving device.

Part 3. AirDrop Alternative to Transfer Files from iPhone to Mac

While AirDrop is a great solution for transferring files from one device to another, it still has some limitations. Using AirDrop, you are allowed to transfer one file type at one time. Then it is a bit tedious if you have large files to be transferred. In this case, you need a solution that allows you to simply connect the iPhone to the Mac and select the files to transfer to the Mac. There are many tools allows you to do just that, which simplify the whole process of data transfer from iPhone/iPad to computer without affecting the data or the devices in any significant way.

What is the Latest Version of iTunes and How to Update

What is the Latest Version of iTunes and How to Update

If you own an iPhone or iPad, you no doubt have a version of iTunes installed on your computer. iTunes is the official tool to manage any iOS device, allowing you to create full backups of your iOS data and then easily restore the data back on to the device when you need to. It is also the most ideal tool to restore an iOS device to factory settings when it is exhibiting some software issues. Over the years, iTunes has changed quite a bit. But in 2019, Apple announced that it was phasing out iTunes for Mac users. The app will be broken up into three different apps including Music, TV and Podcasts.

Windows users will continue to use iTunes as it is. This means that it is necessary to continue to upgrade the version of iTunes running on your Windows PC to ensure that it continues to run properly. But what is the latest version of iTunes? And, how to update iTunes to the latest version? In this article, we address this particular issue.

Part 1. What is the Latest Version of iTunes

Before we share with you the best way to update iTunes to the latest version, it is important to learn what the latest version of iTunes is. The last time iTunes was updated was in September 2017. This was a big change, which brought a lot of new features and removed some functions. This version of iTunes, known as iTunes 12.7, doesn’t have the built-in App store browser and doesn’t support App Store URLs. It also no longer supports the synchronization of ringtones from iTunes or even the management of local applications.

Apple explained the changes by saying that they want iTunes to focus more on the management of the media files on your iOS device. Most people got this latest version of iTunes automatically through the “iTunes Update Available” message. And in 2019, followed the release of new iPhone 11 and iOS 13, Apple has released the latest version of iTunes, iTunes 12.10.0. Usually, iTunes notifies you when a new version is released.
