Infinix Note 7 Review: Arguably the best Infinix Note ever

Infinix Note 7 Review: Arguably the best Infinix Note ever

Infinix recently launched the Note 7, its latest mid-range Android smartphone. Much as the previous versions have been a competition for a number of mid-rangers on the market, this year’s release is a unique offering. It tries to define exactly what one expects of a NOTE smartphone with interesting and perhaps surprising features on the phone.

We did take a look at the first impressions (HERE) and also the reasons why you should upgrade from the Note 6 (HERE). This post is a review of the phone entirely – though the disclaimer is that we have used the phone for barely a week after its launch.

The highlight features of the new Note 7 include a strangely powerful camera, big display, large battery and XOS experience that we’ve come to expect from Infinix devices. Priced from UGX 655,000 in Uganda, let’s see if the Note 7 has enough performance and features to make it worth recommending.

infinix note 7 review

Infinix Note 7 design: Style and Uniqueness

The large size of the Note 7 is immediately apparent, as soon as you take it out of the box. Unlike last year’s Note 6, the 7 comes with a lot less bezels – something we’ve always wanted from the series. There are some changes from the predecessors that many would believe were bets on how receptive the audience will be.

Notes are about writing and swiping. Infinix had got us used to the X-Pen with which you can scribble anything on the phone. But probably the device made the phone unnecessarily bulky and thus the company chose to drop it. You won’t see the X-Pen on this one!

The phone however, comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor to help you keep it and its content secure from trespassers. Did you see that coming? Neither did we! Now, on the back – where the fingerprint sensor should have been, there are four cameras in a round shape. Again, did you see this coming? Elsewhere, there is also a Micro-USB port at the bottom in between an audio jack and grill speakers.

Overall, the Note 7 has a clean and simple design, which I like.

The display is a big 6.9-inch IPS LCD Infinity-O screen with an HD+ resolution of 720×1640 pixels. It boasts of a 20.5:9 aspect ratio and 91.5 percent screen-to-body ratio. Typically, this low resolution is not ideal for such a large screen, due to which text and icons don’t look very sharp.

Infinix Note 7 performance: Superb!

The performance of the device is managed by the new MediaTek Helio G70 chipset which rests over an octa-core processor clocking at a speed of 2GHz. This makes it quite impressive and much more feels fluid when in use. The device also boasts of an entire 6GB of RAM paired with Mali-G52 graphics to give you a lag-free environment and add a gaming ability to it.

infinix note 7

The Note 7’s general performance is decent and good to take home any day. The phone is runs on the ‘nice’ Android 10, which rather feels nothing for someone used to the XOS skin. This particular Note comes with XOS 6.0 and there’s quite a lot to enjoy from it. Something new to get excited about is the new gestural navigation that gives you an effortless display experience when using the phone. You just swipe the moments away! Or, for instance when you receive a call, you can draw the V-gesture in the air to answer and hover your Palm above the screen to reject.

The fingerprint sensor works well and is quick to unlock the phone when needed. There’s also an option to unlock it with your face. You take what you wish for!

Something I hadn’t tried out is the Live Transcribe feature. The feature helps you communicate in the moment by turning your words into text. Interesting, isn’t it?

Infinix Note 7 battery: Impressive!

Let’s talk battery, we know Infinix for equipping its phones with really good power. The Note 7 device carries a 5,000 mAh Li-polymer type battery. This features super-fast charging ability v3.0, re-filling at the speed of 18W. So, you can consume your power at ease with confidence that you will retrieve it back in no time when charging.

Infinix Note 7 cameras: Yes!

Infinix pushed the bar higher with the Note 7, delivering it with 4 rear cameras and a whole new design to encompass them. These include a primary 48MP sensor, two secondary 2MP sensors, plus a super low light video camera with Quad-flash light.

infinix note 7 camera

There’s a 16-megapixel selfie camera in the punch hole right in the large screen. There are quite a number of impressive features that you get to play with on the Note 7 including the exposure compensation, ISO control, continuous shooting, high dynamic range mode (HDR), digital zoom, and face detection.

The first thing you’ll want to do is make sure the HDR option is set to Auto, as it’s off by default. During the day, the Note 7 gives some well-exposed shots with perfect colours and details. You can also give close-up shots a try for satisfaction and natural depth.

And at night? The perfection goes on! The cameras are powered by advanced AI Image Stabilisation which lets the Night mode freely shoot blur-free and focused handheld photos in low-light.

Verdict: Is the Infinix Note 7 right for you?

Priced from UGX 655,000, the Note 7 offers good amounts of RAM and storage, which not many others do. I really like the simple design, large display, good battery life and no-nonsense take on software. The cameras is functional though you need to have good stability for perfect shots. The processor also feels great for gaming or doing anything intensive. The screen display disappoints a bit but we can let that be!

Infinix Note 7 vs Infinix Note 6: Reasons to upgade

Infinix Note 7 vs Infinix Note 6: Reasons to upgade

The Infinix Note 7 was announced recently to succeed the Infinix Note 6 of last year. The aim of this post is to give you a quick and clear difference between the two phones and to help you determine whether an upgrade is worth it.

You might struggle to find anything similar between the two phones. Not to mention, both phones have a single 16-megapixel front facing camera. And both fit in the Note series category. But… How different is the Infinix Note 7 from the Infinix Note 6?

Display

The one major difference between the two phones is the display. The Note 7 has a larger 6.95-inch IPS display with a punch hole and a 720 x 1640 pixels, while the Note 6 boasts of a 6.1-inch 1080 x 2160 AMOLED screen that has no notch.

infinix note 7
infinix note 6

Interestingly, the Note 6 has a better screen than the Note 7, despite the latter’s being bigger. 720p on the close to 7-incher is peanuts to 1080p that the Note 6 has and also the Note 6 has AMOLED panel much better than the IPS screen on the Note 7. Remember the X-Pen? We shall miss it so much because unlike the Note 6, the Note 7 lacks it.

Camera setup

The Note 7 visibly has four sensors on the rear, in a new round combo of 48 + 2 + 2 + 2 MP, while the Note 6 has 3 cams merging a 16-megapixel sensor with an 8 MP and a 2 MP auxiliary sensor.

infinix note 7 camera
infinix note 6 cameras

Performance and Software

The Note 7 has the new Mediatek Helio G70, which is better than the Helio P35 in the Note 6. Both phone’s CPUs are octa-core, and much as the Helio P35 is clocked at 2.3GHz while Helio G70 is at just 2.0GHz, the G70 is based on ARM Cortex-A75 while the P35 is based on Cortex-A53.

Plus, the Note 7 is built for gaming giving it a much better Graphic Processor than the Note 6. This is the reason for the Mali-G52 MC2 presence against the predecessor’s PowerVR GE8320.

The Note 7 has Android 10 based on XOS v6 Dolphin, while the Note 6 has Android 9. There is a 5000mAh battery on the 7 while a 4000mAh battery runs the 6.

The rear fingerprint scanner on the Note 6 has been replaced with a side-mounted scanner of the Note 7. Isn’t that interesting?

Insiders remain one of the key threats to corporate cybersecurity in East Africa

Insiders remain one of the key threats to corporate cybersecurity in East Africa

The number of insider-related cybersecurity incidents in East Africa has increased by 55 percent in the last three months as most companies lacking active monitoring of their IT infrastructure transitioned to remote work occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Dimension Data, the sudden spike has resulted from attackers taking advantage of publicly available weak systems.

Plus, most security controls designed to monitor and capture activities failing to keep up as they are intended for traditional on-premise infrastructure thereby leaving security control gaps as more employees remotely connect to company resources from mobile devices and external networks.  The Financial Services Industry (FSI) remains the most targeted sector because of the immediate monetary gain.

Speaking during the launch of Dimension Data Intelligent Security business in East Africa, the unit’s Head – Ishmael Muli said although insider threats are largely attributed to malicious employees and contractors, statistics from the company’s Threat Intelligence Centre shows that most incidences in the region originate from employee negligence and other close associates ignoring corporate cybersecurity policies, misuse data, and install unauthorized applications among others.

Dimension Data’s Intelligent Security unites all the capabilities and security offerings previously managed by its subsidiary brands Dimension Data East Africa and Internet Solutions into one business and will offer world-class solutions from global partner NTT Ltd. whilst developing locally relevant solutions tailored for protecting organizations in East Africa.

Across East Africa, we are seeing insiders take advantage of organizations that lack visibility or the ability to investigate successful cyberattacks due to limited access controls to detect unusual activity once someone breaches their network. Some of these attacks involve manipulation of transactional data, tampering of logs to limit tracing, as well as framing legitimate users – all of which make forensic investigations difficult. Cyber security plays a critical role for any business within emerging markets like Kenya. We’ve built Dimension Data Intelligent Security to ensure that we offer world-class solutions to our clients, while making sure they suit the unique needs of our clients operating within these markets. Further to this, we have plans to focus on local skills development specifically in the threat intelligence space,” says Muli.

Current attacks within East Africa are being linked to hackers employing smarter methods to distribute their server networks and occasionally purchasing command and control systems in other countries, with traffic being routed through myriad systems making it difficult to trace its origin.

According to the Communication Authority (CA) Annual Report 2018/2019, malware attacks were the most prevalent threats accounting for approximately 78 percent of all cyber threat detections by the National Kenya Computer Incident Response Team – Coordination Centre (National KE-CIRT/CC). Web application attacks and botnet/denial of service threats accounted for approximately 11% and 9% percent respectively of detected cyber threats.

The first half of the year has also seen an increase in reconnaissance attacks accounting for 40 percent of all observations in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region according to NTT Ltd. Global Threat Intelligence Report 2020. A rise in Web Application attacks on common Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Joomla and WordPress accounted for over 20 percent of observed attacks. Whilst service-specific attacks increased by 40 percent targeting known vulnerabilities that may have remained largely unaddressed by various organizations.

The current COVID-19 crisis has seen an upsurge use of technology as many companies adopt work from home and bring your own device policies, increasing organizational risk as cyber security etiquette shifts to end users. As a result, the most prevalent attacks include phishing and social engineering.

With the trend set to continue as the volume of information insiders’ access, store and transmit rises – and remote working becomes the status quo, Muli advised organizations to invest in threat intelligence services to gain regular visibility of what is happening in their internal networks – to automatically detect and remediate stealthy attacks that would otherwise be missed. He urged organizations to conduct insider risk assessments on their critical business functions that could be leveraged by Insiders for fraud.

Moving forward, cyber criminals will increasingly automate cyberattacks. This requires organizations to automate a lot as well with intelligence analysis and orchestration tools, especially in terms of incidence response, to reduce the average remediation time. The future is going to be all about how to recover fast from an attack as networks, systems and processes get more sophisticated for integration,” Muli emphasized.

Dimension Data’s global integration with NTT Ltd. allows for Dimension Data Intelligent Security to provide its clients with solutions that protect their businesses from noted threats all over the globe and harness key innovations from international markets. At the same time, Dimension Data Intelligent Security is investing heavily in research to develop solutions offerings that speak directly to the pricing, scaling and security needs of local businesses.

How to Recover Deleted Photos from SD Card on Android Phone Free

How to Recover Deleted Photos from SD Card on Android Phone Free

Can recover deleted photos from my phone memory card? Because I just deleted the entire DCIM folder from the SD card inserted in my mobile phone. I used an SD card in my phone to free up the internal memory, so the photos taken with my phone camera were saved to the external memory card directly, and there is no backup. Please help me if you know how to restore photos from Android phone SD card. Thanks in advance.

Recover Deleted Photos from SD Card

Though smartphones today usually come with an internal memory of at least 64G, which is a dozen times bigger than ten years ago, a lot of consumers still worry about the gradually occupied space after 1 or 2 years of use. That’s why people might delete photos from mobile memory card either intentionally or accidentally, or lose important files when SD card is corrupted since the tiny memory card is somewhat less reliable than internal memory or external memory with large size, such as hard drive. Anyway, in this article, we are going to talk about how to recover deleted photos from phone memory card with free software in case you don’t have any valid backups.

Tips: To avoid data overwriting, which makes data recovery impossible, please stop using the memory card, especially not adding new files to it, and remove the card from your mobile phone to somewhere safe and clean.

Part 1. How to Recover Deleted Photos from Phone Memory Card with Free Software

RePicvid Photo Recovery is a free software for undeleting photos from memory card, USB flash stick, external hard drive, PC, etc. Whether your photos were deleted, formatted or hidden from SD card, this program will scan the device for lost and existing (but hidden) data.

WindowsFree DownloadWin Version MacFree DownloadMac Version

RePicvid can free restore both regular JPEG/PNG pictures and digital camera RAW pictures, including SR2, CR2, RAF, ARW, etc. It also supports the recovery of video and audio files. If you want to recover photos from phone SD card 100% free, just have a try with RePicvid.

Note: To recover photos or other data from Android phone internal memory, please refer to Gihosoft Android Recovery.

Connect your SD card to computer via a card reader or slot, then follow the easy steps below to retrieve deleted photos from mobile memory card with free software:

  • Step 1. Run RePicvid on your computer, then choose Photo/Graphic.
How to Recover Deleted Photos from Phone Memory Card with Free Software
  • Step 2. Select the partition that you want to recover photos from, then click Scan.
How to Recover Deleted Photos from Phone Memory Card with Free Software
  • Step 3. Preview the found data, then select those you need and click Recover button.
How to Recover Deleted Photos from Phone Memory Card with Free Software

You need to specify a location to save the photos or files to be recovered. Once the recovery is finished, you’ll be guided to the output folder where you can check and move the recovered photos and files. The free SD card recovery software is really a must for everyone given the fact that memory cards are widely-used in our daily life and work.

Part 2. How to Recover Missing Photos from LOST.DIR in Phone SD Card

If you find a lot of photos missing from the memory card in your mobile phone, but there is no reduction in occupied space nor increase in free space, then this method may work for you. Please open the File Manager on your phone, and try to locate a folder named LOST.DIR in the external storage partition.

In this case, the photos are not permanently lost but hidden or renamed due to errors on the SD card, such as unstable connection or random mounting and unmounting. To put it simply, we will batch rename the files to the right extension with the help of an advanced file manager app. Here we will take ES File Explorer as an example.

Tips: Make sure to authorize necessary permissions to ES File Explorer or another file manager app when installing it to your phone, so that it would be able to work properly.

  1. Install ES File Explorer from Google Play Store or download the APK file from other sources and install it on your phone.
  2. Open ES File Explorer, then go to extsdcard
  3. Locate and open LOST.DIR folder.
  4. Long press on any file, then tap Select all.
  5. Tap Rename in the bottom of the screen, then fill the blanks under Batch Rename as below:
Input a new name: any name, e.g. Photo
    Start number: 1 or 01
    Rename extension name: jpg
  6. Tap OK.

Now you should be able to open the images and see if they are what you want. If some of the files won’t open, they could be video files. Please repeat the steps above but rename those files with the extension as mp4.

Bottom Line

In this tutorial, we have learnt two free methods to recover photos deleted or missing from mobile phone memory card. In case the LOST.DIR folder is empty or you find there is more free space after the photos were missing, you may still have a try with the free software in Part 1. Feel free to let us know your thoughts or questions in the comment section below.

Infinix Note 7 unboxing and first impressions

Infinix Note 7 unboxing and first impressions

Given that it was announced globally in April, we’ve been anxiously waiting on the Infinix Note 7 to be launched in Uganda. In fact, we were a little concerned about the product’s availability given the coronavirus pandemic. But after patiently waiting, we finally got the handset in our hands.

As interesting as it may be playing with it, we haven’t had the Infinix Note 7 for that long. It’s been just over a day, so we can’t give you a full review of the phone just yet. However, with a number of interesting features here and there, we can give you some impressions to go by.

What’s inside the box?

The Infinix Note 7 is wrapped in an attractive box, in a colour similar to what the Hot 8 and S5 came with. When you unwrap it, you’ll find the phone, charger head, a transparent phone case, earphones, micro USB charger, screen protector, and a few documentation guiding you on how to use the phone.

infinix note 7

A completely new Infinix Note design

The very first thing you’ll notice about the Note 7 is that it’s a lot different from anything Infinix has released in the last half decade. Yes, the transition is clearly parallel to the advancement in technology and the constantly changing trends all over the industry.

The Note 7 is a stylish phone with bright colour options and a rather unique camera design. The screen is a pretty huge 6.95-inch display, almost 7-inches, which is not a surprise for a Note device. Is it too tall? That’s hard to tell just yet, but we’ll address that in our full review.

infinix note 7

The front-facing camera comes in the form of a punch hole, or is it an in-display? It is close to what we saw with the S5. The rear cams are a round shaped combination of 4 sensors with a Quad-LED flash.

There are some additions worth trying out! The side-mounted fingerprint was something we didn’t look forward to. Infinix beat us right there! The corning Gorilla Glass is another amazing addition, which adds some life to the screen beyond what we are used to.

Overall this new design is an interesting one. It feels like a shift from the same old thing we’ve come to expect from Infinix every time there is a new phone to be released.

Infinix Note 7 specs

Screen: 6.95 inches
Camera: 48MP+2MP+2MP+2MP on the rear, 16MP on the front
Memory: 128GB/64GB+6GB/4GB in terms of ROM + RAM respectively

Battery: 5000mAh
Chip: Mediatek Helio G70 (12 nm)
CPU: Octa-core (2×2.0 GHz Cortex-A75 & 6×1.7 GHz Cortex-A55)

Looking forward

Our full review is coming next week, but in the meantime, let us know what you think of the phone. Is it a worthy upgrade from the Note 6 and does it fit in the mobile trends today?
